Happy Friday & Ugly Sweater Day ! Here is what went on today:

Forensics

Today we went over the process of electrophoresis (you should have picked up printed out notes about this).  Then we talked about that topics/concepts are on the quiz next Tuesday (11/20).  The quiz is mainly about DNA basics, how we can use it for evidence, significance of famous cases, and the process of electrophoresis.  In class we read articles about the four ways to test DNA and you completed a chart about this.  I will check this on Monday and we will go over it Monday.  This information is not on the quiz but will be on the unit test.

Homework

Finish the chart/article reading from class

Integrated Science

Today we finalized the ooblek lab (it is mostly a liquid!) and reviewed for our quiz on Monday 11/19.  Everyone worked on a review packet and asked questions in class for review.  Period G finished up the notes and their quiz will be on Tuesday 11/20.  We will have time for questions and will go over the homework before the quiz on Monday as a little extra review.

* Period D you should also fill out the literature review sheet for science fair as we will be working on this during class on Monday.

Homework

Crossword Puzzle ! I will check this and we will go over it before the quiz Monday
G: Short Answer Question Worksheet

Have an awesome and safe weekend !

Hi everyone ! I apologize for not posting anything in awhile.

Everyone did a great job first term.  Your effort and approach to the material was outstanding.  Please continue to show this great work ethic as we start Term 2.  Remember, we are starting with a clean slate so it is never too late to take initiative ! Also remember good behavior and respect always in order for class and life to run smoothly.

With that said here is what went on today

Forensics

Today we continues our unit on DNA and forensics.  We finished the notes about DNA basics and talked about famous cases using DNA to convict and exonerate people. We will keep going with this unit tomorrow

Homework

Finish the video questions on fingerprinting from last week (we watched the last segment today)
You are to hand this in tomorrow

Integrated Science

Today we did the ooblek lab ! Everyone showed good lab practices during this activity.  We made observations about this cornstarch & water substance and did mini experiments to determine whether or not it is more like a solid or a liquid.  Tomorrow we will come to a conclusion as a class about this!

Homework

Finish the questions in the ooblek lab packet.  You will hand the packet as well as a conclusion write-up we do in class tomorrow in tomorrow for a lab grade

Thursday, November 1, 2012

Good afternoon,

Here is what went on today/reminders

Forensics

Today we continued reviewing for a Quiz/Test tomorrow on Fingerprints.  This assessment is worth 80 points so it is worth more than a quiz but less than a test !  We went over the article questions from class yesterday and the fingerprint examples which i checked for classwork/homework credit.  We then completed a crossword puzzle review sheet for the quiz/test which we went over at the end of class.  Hand this in tomorrow for 2 extra credit points !  You received a sheet with what is on the test yesterday in class and today we went over possible quiz/test questions.

Homework

Study for quiz/test

Integrated Science

We finished all the notes for Chapter 2 yesterday.  The sections for Chapter 2 are as followed and you have fill-in note sheets for each section:

Section 2.1 - Types of matter
Section 2.2 - Physical properties of matter
Section 2.3 - Chemical properties of matter

Today we watched a review video on physical and chemical properties and went over the homework from last night identifying certain phenomena as a chemical or physical change based on evidence we learned in class.  We then did a demonstration using copper chloride and aluminum foil about what we need for a chemical change.  You received 5 points if you followed safety procedures (goggles, gloves, appropriate behavior).  We will go over this more tomorrow and I will check this sheet during the binder check.  You also picked up a sheet about what is on the test next Wednesday and  what I am looking for in your binder for the binder check (takes place during the test).  Children's Book projects were due today as well.  If you did not turn it in today you can turn it in late but you will receive 10% off for each day it is late.

Homework

Finish the demonstration worksheet from class & start preparing your binder/study materials

Reminders

Homework Club - Tuesday after school in Room 218 ! Great way to get organized and help with homework from National Honor Society students who have taken the same classes you're taking ! Take advantage of this opportunity.

Make-up Work - Several of you still need to make up tests, quizzes, and labs.  You have until NEXT THURSDAY to do so (I have extended this deadline so you have no excuse as to why you do not have these complete!)
