Today we completed the measurement lab. There were 6 stations around the room where you had to measure and convert units. Everyone seemed to do a good job with this and the behavior was acceptable. This lab (table on first page, questions on the back, and conversions) is due Tuesday 10/02. On Monday we will have a quiz on measuring and I gave out a sheet that notes everything on this quiz. Next week we will do the graphing section.

Today we went over measurement more. I think the sheet you picked up at the beginning of class that we went over will really benefit you in understanding this material and doing conversions. We also measured objects in the room and put them in these different contexts. At the end of class we discussed tomorrows lab. I will give more instruction at the start of class tomorrow but basically we will have different stations and measure things at each station. This will be our last day with measurement and we will move on to graphing. Next week we will ahev a quiz on measurement (Monday) and I will give you a study sheet & review after the lab tomorrow.

Hi Everyone. I apologize this is my first post of the week ! This is everything that went on today...
Forensics
In class today I announced the test on Friday. The test is on Crime Scene Basics & Eye Witness Information. You should also know the general premise of the Lindbergh kidnapping, Lizzie Borden case, and Ronald Cotton case (man put in jail because of false eye witness accounts !). I handed back your Forensics history papers as well. If you did not hand in a reference page you can hand it in by Friday for 1/2credit (this is significant as the reference page was 20% of the grade so you can get 10% back !). You also should have read that article and wrote a 1 page summary which I will check tomorrow. Tomorrow in class we will review some more and test Friday. The test will be a mix of multiple choice, fill-ins, and essay questions.
Homework
1 page Summary of the Eye Witness article/Study for Test
Integrated Science
Today in class we did more measurement notes and examples. Complete understanding of the metric system takes time so do not get discouraged ! We will keep practicing and hopefully perform a lab on Friday. Try to rememeber the prefixes and the little shortcut I gave you today
Smaller Units to Larger Units = Smaller # than when you started - move the decimal point left
Larger Units to Smaller Units = Larger # than when you started - move the decimal point right
We will keep practicing and I will create some kind of example for you
Today was the last day to get any credit on late work.
Homework
Periods C&E = Metric Conversion Challenge Worksheet
Period D = Metric Worksheet #'s 1-20 (first column)
Period G = Metric conversion examples #'s 1-5
Try these and show your work - even if you dont get it try something ! you may surprise yourself :)
Have a nice day & see you tomorrow

Happy Friday everyone ! You made it through the week. Here is everything that went on today.
Forensics
Today we took some more notes on eyewitness accounts. We discussed what influences eyewitness testimony and briefly talked about facial compositions. We then watched a 60 Minutes report on a man that was wrongfully imprisoned because of eyewitness accounts and was later exonerated with DNA evidence. You should have passed in the worksheet that went along with this video as classwork. Most of you did a great job with this and seemed really interested in the video.
Homework
No homework
Reminder: A few of you have not handed in the paper. The paper is worth 50 points and is an assessment (70% of your grade). By now it is very late. You can still get points on it but your grade will be a failing grade (ex. you could get a 10/50 - this is technically a 20% but at least you have 10 points as opposed to none). Not passing in anything almost guarantees you a failing grade in this class already. Therefore, HAND SOMETHING IN !
Integrated Science
Today we finished watching MythBusters and started discussing measurement, our next section. You should have handed in the worksheet that went along with the Mythbusters video about how they utilize the scientific method in their experiment. I showed you your quiz grades. There are only 2 more people that need to take it and once they do I will go over the quiz with all of you and you can have it for your binder.
Homework
Read the article about measurement to prepare for the next section
Period D: Keep researching science fair ! try the mass science fair website for ideas
Reminders: This weekend I will try to print up an update on all of your grades so you can see where you stand. We will probably have a quiz on the next section the following week and a test at the end of that week as well (just a look ahead). Progress reports close Fri Oct 5th !
Have a fantastic, fun, safe, & productive weekend :)

Good afternoon. Here is everything that went on today & homework/updates
Forensics
Today we took notes on eye-witness accounts and read an article about Lizzie Borden with questions to accompany it. We also discussed what would be on the quiz Thursday. If you missed school yesterday you need to make up the "Every Contact Leaves a Trace" lab ASAP.
Homework
Finish the Lizzie Borden question packet for Thursday.
Integrated Science
Today we went over homework on variables or vocabulary and reviewed a bit. I went over everything you need in your boat lab and you are to hand that in tomorrow. Classes that hadn't finished notes for the current section finished notes and we went over what is on the quiz on Thursday. If you missed school Friday you need to make up the "Boat Lab" ASAP.
Homework
Scientific Method step identification worksheet & have Boat Lab done
Reminders
If you are absent it is your responsibility to come see me about missing work but NOT during class time. It is not fair to other students or the current lesson to take time out. You may come before or after school to discuss things with me. I am concerned I have told a lot of you this and I have yet to see anyone after school. I know the buses leave early but I am always in my room during lunch as well. I am here before school as well and at 7:05 you can find me in the cafeteria and I could at least put things together for you if you notify me and you could get them later in the day. I am going to try to be diligent about setting aside papers for absent students but again it is your responsibility I am not going to hunt you down about it.
Have a good day

Here is an overview of what we did today in class & tonights homework
Forensics
Today we went over what the significance of evidence is to a crime scene. We watched a video clip about the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh Jr. (Again, sorry for the frequent pauses in the video - whenever we watch videos it seems I have to play the clip through before class then replay it ! lesson learned). You also should have filled out a question sheet about the murder and read the article that corresponds to the video. This was classwork to hand in by the end of class. You can hand it in tomorrow for half credit if you forgot). Homework was the crime scene basics wkst and research for your paper. We will meet in the library tomorrow to allow for research time for the paper. Friday we will finish the crime scene basics presentation and potentially investigate another case study !
Integrated Science
We have been going through the scientific method powerpoint. We have gone through the 7 steps and the significance of variables (different classes are at different spots but for the most part this is where we are all at). For the rest of the week we will do more practice with this and on Friday we will go over the procedure on how to access the online book. Honors and CP1 had a variables wkst for homework that I will check tomorrow. Hopefully we will be prepared to do the boat lab on Friday too. Expect scientific method quiz next week sometime. More info to come on that.
Period C: Summer Reading presentations tomorrow 9/13 & bring in your manila envelopes by Friday 9/14

Hello everyone. I will update the blog a little later today (must go to a faculty meeting right now !) But in the mean time, period G here is the list of theory/law questions for tonight. Remember to write whether you think the statement represents a theory or law and why you think that (briefly: 1-2 sentences is fine). I will check it tomorrow at the beginning of class. Good luck !
1. Planets move in an ellipse, with the star
at a focus
2. Life on Earth originated and then evolved
from a universal common ancestor approximately 3.7 billion years ago
3. Life is based on cells
4. E =
mc2
5. The universe began almost 14 billion
years ago with a massive expansion event

Hello everyone. The second week of school is off to a good start as each class started the first unit of the year today. Forensics had a presentation about forensics history and the integrated science class began section 1.2 notes on the scientific method. Remember to bring your notes to every class and take diligent notes ! It is important you record all the information given and discussed.
Forensics
Today you were given information about your first paper, along with a rubric/expectations, and a graphic organizer to help you write the essay. You should look to the rubric as a checklist and make sure you include all the necessary information in your paper. Please staple the rubric to the back of your paper. That way I can grade much more easily and save paper. Having the rubric will be part of the 3 pts given for having your name/period/date so make sure to include this ! The paper is due Monday, September 17th
You also have the safety/expectation quiz tomorrow. Read over your expectations and be aware of class routines and safety rules. The quiz is worth 10 points.
Homework: Get ideas for paper/ study for safety/expectation quiz
Integrated Science
Today we began our notes on Chapter 1 Section 1.2 on the scientific method. We also went over what you should have in your binder. You don't have to buy tabs but I recommend it (makes finding information easier). As long as you have some kind of division with the title of the section then that is sufficient. We took notes on the scientific method to be continued this week.
You also have the safety/expectation quiz tomorrow. Read over your expectations and be aware of class routines and safety rules. The quiz is worth 10 points.
Homework: Study for safety/expectation quiz
Reminders: Blue Team
Summer Reading = this week ! during period C - in my period C class we will probably do this on Thursday 9/13
Camp Clark permission forms = make sure you bring in a permission form and $ to Mrs. Degelder by Friday 9/14
Information Envelope = the manilla envelope with personal information that your parents also had to sign is due Friday 9/14 to your Period C teacher
Please see me with any questions

Today each class discussed basic safety in class and during laboratory procedures. We looked at the safety contract, images of safety, and read a safety article. Everyone did pretty well with this however the side conversations should cease from here on out. We are going to start out first units on Monday so coem to class with all the appropriate materials. I will give you a list of ideas for binder tabs (Int. Sci) on Monday. Have a great and safe weekend ! Here is the homework:
Int. Science: Get your safety contract signed - its on the last page of the safety contract - you only have to hand in this one sheet

First Two Days of School Overview
Hello everyone, I hope you have an enjoyable day off tomorrow and have had an exciting first two days back at school. For the past two days each class has gone over a lot of the more administrative and classroom management details such as peer and teacher introductions, discussing the syllabus, and sharing ideas about effort and respect in the classroom. Every class has handled this very well and it is in your best interest to maintain this effort and respect.
I hope the multiple intelligence test was also of some interest to you despite confusion with scoring ! I went around and made note of who filled it out and who did not. Those of you who did it are off to a great start and those of you that did not can still show it to me for half credit on Friday but please be weary of due dates. In Int. Science everyone did well with the classmate get to know you activity and most people in Forensics earned full credit for handing in their classmate interview. I will most likely just group all the assignments for this week together to be worth about 12 points total.
On Friday we will discuss a few more class procedures and talk about safety. Safety is our last but perhaps most important procedural discussion until and then we get started on science units:
Forensics : Forensics Basics and Eye Witness Testimony
Integrated Science: Scientific Techniques/Methods
Please remember your homework:
Forensics: Have parent/guardian sign class syllabus (Due Fri)
Integrates Science: Have parent/guardian sign class syllabus & Image Representation (Due Fri)
Image Representation: Can be drawn or from the computer: Something that represents you/your interests or something that fascinates you in science. On the back write why you chose this (at least 2 sentences) and your name. Put some color in it (should be about the size of an index card)!
Again, enjoy your Thursday off. I continue to look forward to getting to know you all and start on the science material as soon as possible
- Ms. O'Brien
** Freshmen: Remember summer reading is due next week so do not forget to complete this !
*** Students in my C period class: remember to bring in the information packet you got in homeroom the first day of school (came in small manila folders) to me by next Fri (9/14)
